The Fairfield City Council and numerous partners enlisted the University of Northern Iowa’s (UNI) Institute for Decision Making to conduct a comprehensive planning process for the City based around five core community values.

Sustaining Jackson Hole is a comprehensive, citizen-driven indicators program. Citizens set out to measure and track a wide variety of programs and issues in the community, and to create indicators for all aspects of the community.

The challenges facing Whistler2020 arose from Whistler's long-time label as a resort community without much focus on its traditional, local character. In response, the city of Whistler developed a plan that would balance these two parts of the city.

The people of Standish, Maine recognize that their community is "… a treasure of open spaces and natural beauty," which is why the town created a unique comprehensive plan to steer growth and change while maintaining rural character.

In the summer of 2007, the City of Dawson Creek British Columbia started a movement to engage youth in planning for the future. Many young people shared ideas, concerns, and visions and created a Youth Guide to help more young people join the effort.
