Imagine Central Arkansas was a 3-year process inviting residents of central Arkansas to participate in conversations about the region’s long-term future. Through the use of EngagingPlans from Urban Interactive Studio, the project shared information like upcoming events, project phases, and ways for citizens to get involved. Imagine Central Arkansas also used intuitive apps to simultaneously enhance and simplify participation.
During the visioning process, the project team used a customized and project-branded Community Mapping app to gain insight on local places of importance and those that need improvement. Upon combining these insights with those gained at in-person events and through outreach, Imagine Central Arkansas developed a State of the Region report to reflect what they learned to the community. Rather than circulate a long, lifeless PDF, the team used a Digital Workshop app to transform the report into an interactive, informative activity that offered citizens the chance to dig into the feedback that the project had received during prior phases.
Once the State of the Union had been established, Imagine Central Arkansas needed community feedback on possible development and infrastructure alternatives, so they used a unique scenario alternatives online game to help people understand the impacts of various trade-offs. Through this game, citizens could explore how different priorities and approaches influence long-term deicisions related to transportation planning.
Imagine Central Arkansas' final plan document, Blueprint for a Sustainable Region, was formally adopted in December of 2014.
