The Center for Sustainable Economy’s Ecological Footprint quiz measures the amount of land required to support one person’s consumption of resources. This educational tool illustrates that everything we do has an impact on land around the world.
To increase awareness of the impact humans are having on nature, this quiz measures how much land is required to support a given lifestyle. The Ecological Footprint quiz takes into account consumption of resources such as food, energy, housing, and services and also the amount of land necessary to absorb waste. Twenty-seven questions allow the user to identify their lifestyle choices and see how their demands impact the earth. At the end of the quiz, your impact is measured against people from your country and other countries to see how you compare to others.
The final footprint calculation is split into four categories of consumption: carbon (energy use), food, housing, and goods & services. Your land consumption is also broken into four ecosystems: crops, forest, pasture, and marine land. Finally, the quiz represents your footprint in the amount of Earths necessary to support your lifestyle – a shocking statistic, especially for developed nations, that comes in at over one and a half Earths necessary for the global population. Aimed at raising awareness of our lifestyle choices, this quiz shows people just how much impact their consumption has on the world as a whole.
