Everyday Democracy

Organization Description

Using innovative, participatory approaches, Everyday Democracy works with neighborhoods, cities and towns, regions, and states. The organization places particular emphasis on the connection between complex public issues and structural racism. Some of the issues addressed include: poverty and economic development; education reform; racial equity; early childhood development; police-community relations; youth and neighborhood concerns.

Everyday Democracy, formerly known as the Study Circles Resource Center, was founded in 1989 by The Paul J. Aicher Foundation, a national, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization. Since 1989, the organization has worked with more than 600 communities across the United States on many different public issues.

The goal of Everyday Democracy’s programs and services is to include all voices in the public problem solving process to help create communities that work better for everyone. Some of the endeavors that the organization uses in creating a stronger democracy include:
