Code for America (CfA) Commons is an online catalogue of government and civic software, a variety of apps that foster civic engagement and are available to anyone on the web. Essentially a database of civic software apps, CfA Commons aims to connect governments across the U.S. and engage citizens by allowing them to add apps to the database, write a story about using an app or join a discussion group. Apps in the database can help people with many types of projects, including budgeting, data integration, location, mapping, social media, human resource management, data conversion and more.
Each app has a brief entry in the database to help users better understand what it is used for and who else is using it. The entry includes its purpose, features, uses, reviews, technology requirements and listings of locations it is being used.
Launched in the Spring of 2012, CfA Commons already has 621 app entries from 245 cities.
