Shelburne Farms

Organization Description

Located on the coast of scenic Lake Champlain in Shelburne Vermont, Shelburne Farms provides an ideal setting for an educational center and working farm. The 1,400 acre plot rests on a National Historic Landmark and provides visitors with a glimpse into environmental, economic, and culturally sustainable rural land use practices. Trails, classrooms, and various events give visitors a chance to explore the scenic farmstead and learn about the sustainable practices employed on the working farm.

Shelburne Farms uses traditional low-impact farming methods to produce goods on the working farm and educate the public about sustainable farming. The farm produces low-input, high quality dairy products from grass fed cows, building upon traditional farming processes that leave a minimal impact on the land. Rotational grazing, a high efficiency milking parlor, and “green certified” forestry practices are just a few of the traditional methods used at Shelburne farms to connect people with the food and land systems that we rely upon.
